Indya Moore sul red carpet con addosso le foto delle donne trans nere uccise

Indya Moore ha stupito tutti ieri durante i Daily Front Row Fashion Media Awards che si sono tenuti a New York, arrivando sul red carpet con degli orecchini pendenti in cui erano ritratte 16 delle donne nere trans assassinate negli Stati Uniti dall’inizio di quest’anno. Assieme ad esse, una diciassettesima ragazza trans, la 17enne Bailey Reeves, è stata portata dalla musa di Nicolas Ghesquière all’interno di una cornice poiché assassinata nei giorni scorsi, dopo che gli accessori erano stati realizzati.

Definito da BuzzFeed una delle dichiarazioni di moda più importanti dell’anno, il look dell’attrice di Pose – prima donna transgender a finire sulla copertina di Elle –  è stato accompagnato da una sua dichiarazione molto profonda al momento del ritiro del premio per la miglior copertina di un magazine dell’anno. «In questo giorno in cui sono celebrata e premiata per essere visibile, ho deciso di portarle con me – ha affermato Indya Moore – Proprio come me, queste donne hanno osato esaurire la loro libertà di esistere essendo visibili. Tuttavia, invece di essere celebrate, sono punite per questo».

La modella di genere non-binario – che preferisce essere chiamata con il pronome “they” (loro) – ha poi ringraziato Lady Gaga e le altre persone che con delle generose donazioni hanno aiutato la casa di affidamento in cui è stata accolta quando, all’età di 14 anni, si allontanò dai suoi genitori transfobici. In quegli anni Indya, originaria del Bronx, cambiò così tante famiglie da trovarsi a vivere in quasi tutti i quartieri di New York.

The issue is so pressing that after creating the earring and three days before the event, Bailey Reeves, a 17 year old girl from Baltimore was killed. For her, Indya carried a frame around with her face. @indyamoore’s jewelry served as an altar and their speech was both a prayer for the future and a call to action. In their hour of celebration they put their trans sisters in the forefront.
